SUMMARY ABOUT ME
I TEACH BECAUSE:
believe that teaching is a social service worthy of the highest praise and recognition. There is nothing that is or that did not become without having first been taught. What does that mean exactly? It means that the world advances, retreats, progresses, creates and moves toward enlightenment, first and foremost because all individuals have been taught (whether formally or informally). Teaching is the world's noblest profession. Yet the world refuses to recognize this truth.
To teach the arts is an act of “educational warfare” in the United States. Why do I say that? Because the United States is a nation that has continually “waged war” against the arts, continually demeaning the value of the arts with systematic cuts to any type of arts funding. I consider myself a proud member of the brave group of individuals who, with visionary scope, continue to rally for and promote the arts as a vessel of innovation within the realms of psychological, emotional, and spiritual development. The world has become blinded to the arts as a panacea to many of the worlds philosophical and technological problems.
I ACT BECAUSE:
I ACT because it was the one educational venue I found that required me to be ever mindful of my humanity, to be ever vigilant of the value of authenticity, to be ever cognizant of the social needs of those whose voices go unheard in the world, and to be ever sensitive the spiritual nature of all beings in this world. And then I found teaching.
I TEACH ACTING BECAUSE:
I TEACH ACTING because I find it imperative to quench the thirst of those who seek knowledge. But I do not believe that acting can be solely about seeking knowledge. It must be about the application of that knowledge on the stage and the sculpting of that knowledge into a character that allows the audience to gain insight into their own [the audience's] personal psyche. I teach acting because I believe that those who truly seek to learn the craft do so because they intrinsically want to learn more about themselves. And those seeking to learn more about themselves are those who, I believe, are the vessels that will help transform the world. Is it not true that the greatest change begins with self?
MY RESEARCH INTERESTS
y research interests include “the intersection of arts and effective marketing” as pertains to the theatre community. I am interested in bringing to fruition platforms that help the community better promote itself. And I am interested in the impacts of mental health issues on performers ability to achieve success. In each of these areas, I try to bring elements of creativity in the presentation and collection of materials/ideas.
My latest project aims to explore issues artists face and must overcome to achieve success. It examines some of the mental issues that an individual may have to battle in creating a life they envision. And its aim is to create a repository of shared knowledge and experiences that any artists can access.
